What is it, and why?
The One Bike Category is a new, optional challenge running alongside the main Yorkshire Cyclo-cross Series. It recognises riders who complete every race on one bike, with no bike changes — no second bike waiting in the pits for a swap.
Many riders only own one cyclo-cross bike, and this category celebrates that: it’s a nod to a more traditional, equipment-minimal approach to the sport, and a bit of extra season-long fun and friendly competition alongside the main standings.
It runs entirely in parallel — it doesn’t affect British Cycling points or rankings, and doesn’t affect your position in the main series standings.
How to Join or Opt out
- To join: register via this Google Form. You’re in for the whole season from registration onward.
- To opt out: submit the same Google Form. Opting out is only done through the form — if you’ve used, or had access to, a second bike, you’re expected to tell us via the form yourself.
- It’s all season, not per race. You’re either in the Single Bike category for the whole series, or you’re out. Opting out removes your results from the Single Bike standings for the entire season, not just from that point forward — there’s no picking and choosing which rounds count.
- We’re trusting riders to self-declare honestly — there’s no policing beyond that.
Full rules
Eligibility
open to Adult and Junior categories. Younger categories (Under-16 and below) aren’t included — Under-12 riders already race without equipment exchange under British Cycling regulations, and the same reasoning applies across the other younger age groups.
During a race:
- Complete each race using a single bicycle frame — no changing bikes during the race.
- Use the same bike for all CX riding that day, including practice laps.
Mechanical issues:
- Wheel changes are fine.
- Pit repairs are allowed under normal cyclocross rules.
- The same frame must stay in use for the whole race.
Between rounds:
- You can use a different bike at different rounds of the series — the one-bike rule applies per race, not “the same bike all season.”
Opting out:
- Opting out is only done via the Google Form — there’s no automatic removal for using a second bike.
- If you use, or have access to, a second bike, you’re expected to tell us yourself via the form. This removes you from the Single Bike standings for the whole season (see above).
- You’re always free to change bikes under normal British Cycling rules — doing so just means you’re expected to opt out via the form, and you’ll no longer be counted in this category.
These rules are new for this season and may be adjusted as we learn how the category works in practice — check back here if anything seems unclear.
