IN-Form Paul Cox (Team Pedal Power) was an untroubled winner of the eighth round of the Yorkshire Points series on a rolling, grassy South Dalton Estate course, close to Beverley in East Yorkshire.

The 26-year-old Nottingham rider, who has been in commanding form in the Lincolnshire League, enjoyed a change of scenery as he took the lead on the opening lap and smoothly rode away from the rest of the field to finish well over a minute clear of second-placed Ben Cooper (Hargreaves Cycles).

The drama took place in the chasing group behind Cox as James Dalton (Pedal Sport) clipped a hurdle on the second lap and hit the deck, bringing down Edwyn Oliver-Evans (CX Mag) in the process. Dalton took almost two minutes to replace his chain and was pretty much at the rear of the field when he restarted, but worked his way back through in determined fashion to secure a creditable third place. However, while under-23 Oliver-Evans was quickly back in the action, he was soon dropping down outside the top ten with a rear mech problem.

Richard Knowles (BC Private Member) worked his way up from mid-field to finish fourth.

In the veterans’ race, Dan Cook (High Peak Cycles) saw off the Pedalsport challenge of Chris Taylor and Mike Young to win by half a minute. Cook and Taylor moved clear and looked to be heading for a close finish before Taylor slipped twice on the greasy corners at the lower end of the course and lost touch.

Mark Horrocks continued his recent good form with a win in the Vet-50 race, seeing off the challenge of Pete Wilkin who was the only rider to be able to go with him at the start. Marie Jackson took the women’s race with a well-controlled ride.

In the Youth race, Eddie Townend (Pedalsport) made the early running, but Euan Cameron (East Bradford CC) and Jenson Young (Pedal Sport) pulled him back and then moved clear themselves. Cameron made a late surge on the last lap count as he claimed the win from Young and Townend. All three are Under-14s, underlining the strength in this age category and it was another Under-14, Lucy Horrocks (Hope), who claimed the girls’ race.

The Under-10 and Under-8 fields raced together, with Tom Scott (Sheffield Stars) claiming the win from Luca Longo and Seb Cliffe.  Elora Foley (Leeds Mercury) led home the Under-10 girls, from team-mate Orla Hunt. Under-8 winners were Harry Fox and Amy Scott.

The Under-12 race saw two distinct battles, with Henry Hollyman getting the better of Nathan Page, with Marcus Hiley finishing third after an early altercation with the marker tapes. Meanwhile Kayleigh Wells opened up a big lead in the girls race, only for Amber Hull – wearing the East Bradford CC colours for the first time – to chase her down and grab the win within the last lap.
