It was the Barnes brothers, Nick and Chris, that lead the race out across the field to start and soon it was four riders who had taken control up front, with Jack Clarkson, Ian Taylor and Rob Scott joining Nick Barnes. But after a lap, the pace was too strong for the youth rider Robert Scott and he fell back to the group behind.
With two laps to go Clarkson and Taylor were managing to distance Barnes. On the last lap they were still together going into the final woods section for the last time and it was Clarkson who emerged first to take the win by 10 seconds to Taylor. In the Ladies race Youth rider Sophie Thackery won convincingly leading from start to finish. Behind her Marie Jackson and Alison Kinloch were together for most of the race with Jackson making a gap with a few laps to go to claim second, with a strong finishing Renee Saxton taking third from Kinloch.
In the under 14 race Euan Cameron took the lead from the start taking several meters from the chasers before they got to the first technical section. A small crash mid pack on an off camber section held some riders up but the leaders were well on their way. Cameron went onto win by a minute which left Young and Taylor to fight it out for second this came to a sprint finish with Taylor took by the smallest of margins for second, after reference to the line judge. Lucy Horrocks was a clear winner of the girls’ race, finishing fifth overall, a great ride!
