Round six saw the series return to the idyllic surroundings of the Malsis School, near Skipton, where organiser Seth Smith had plotted out a dry but technical course with lots of switch backs, a fallen log and two hurdles to negotiate.
In the under 14 race the Pedalsport trio of Jenson Young, Matt Taylor and Eddie Townend set off from the start with the previously dominant Euan Cameron just off the pace, thanks to an arm injury he was nursing. The leading three stayed together almost to end before Townend just lost touch on the last lap, leaving Young and Taylor to fight it out in a sprint finish. This duo have seemigly been locked together all season so far, with taylor getting the better of Young in a series of incredibly close finishes. However, this time it was Young who came out on top by perhaps half a wheel. Fin Cooper and first girl, Lucy Horrocks, took fourth and fifth.
In the Over-14 race, a group of five quickly formed, made up of Jack Clarkson, Nick Barnes, Ian Taylor, Billy Harding and John Hopkinson. Harding was the first to fall off the pace dropping back but with a big gap to a large group of nine behind him he was racing alone in fifth. There was nothing to spilt the remaining four for serveral minutes, until Clarkson had disappeared with two laps to go.
Speaking to him afterwards, Jack reported that he’d crashed on a sharp right hander on the lower half of the course, ending up sliding down a river banking. It took him several seconds to sort himself and bike out, by which time the other three were long gone.
At the front, Hopkinson attacked with a lap to go and kept up the pressure throughout the last lap the to take the win from Ian Taylor and Nick Barnes. Clarkson managed to stay away from Harding to take forth. Amira Mellor was first woman with veteran Marie Jackson just behind by 30 seconds.
